SuperGreen Business of the Week: Atticus Coffee and Tea House

Atticus Coffee Park City

Park City Main Street has experienced ongoing changes as establishments lose the old town/local feel and focus on high end experiences attracting tourist crowds.  Atticus Coffee and Tea House blends the best of both worlds.

Atticus is guaranteed to capture hearts with the first cup of coffee.  Randy and Ericah, two busy locals, work their tails off to balance running the coffee shop and sending it on sticks and bikes all year long.  This incredible mix influences all areas of the business: From their creative drink inventory, to their sustainable practices, to their involvement with Park City’s great community of small businesses and nonprofits.

Atticus’ wonderful baristas are trained to make anyone happy with a full chai menu, tea menu, coffee & espresso menu, and a specialty drink menu with interesting combinations like bee pollen and milk, or spicy dark chocolate mocha's.

Randy and Ericah are not only passionate about coffee and books, they are also committed to giving back to the community.  They’ve embraced this in every aspect starting with the effort to operate sustainably.  This is how they ended up here, as a SuperGreen Business of the Week! We’ve been working with Atticus to help reduce their energy consumption by switching energy hungry incandescent bulbs with LED efficient lighting.  They have reduced their power demand by 86% saving 17,996 kilowatts and 11 tons of CO2 every year. We work with conscious businesses like Atticus to reach energy efficiency and financial efficiency, so that they can focus their resources on more impactful projects.

One of the impactful projects that Atticus leads is called “Think Community, Think Local”.  In this project, Atticus’ team selects a different nonprofit organization to support every month.  They have worked with a variety of great organizations such as “THINC” (a group working to stop the Treasure Hill Development), and most recently, “Save Our Canyons” (a group working to protecting the wilderness and beauty of the Wasatch mountains canyons and foothills).  Not only has Atticus they given back over $30,000 to the community since 2010, they also support many local entrepreneurs. Atticus dedicates a small portion of their store to display treasured local creations like Maxx Cohen’s famous pottery, Ashley Battersby’s A-Bomb apparel headbands, Summer Sarinova’s beautiful glass art, and many more deserving brands.

We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with Atticus and the friendliest staff in town and we hope to work with other mindful businesses in the Park City community looking for ways to become more energy efficient.
